In addition to the mirrored pocket door, my latest completed project is the linen cabinet. If you remember, the linen cabinet is back to back with one of the wardrobe cabinets in the guest bedroom closet. And it was the solution to me wanting a linen cabinet in the bathroom where I otherwise wouldn’t have gotten one.

Built
I miscalculated the width of the opening and had to plane down one of the studs to get the linen cabinet to fit.

How to DIY a Built In Linen Cabinet

This post has been a long time coming and I’m so excited to finally share our new built in linen cabinet with all of you.Our Built In Linen Cabinet PlanTo review, when we renovated this bathroom, we originally had a small shower in this little nook.

How to DIY a Built In Linen Cabinet
We replaced our old bathtub with a large shower and I then had my contractor tile and drywall out this area for a future linen cabinet.I shared more details and measurements about designing this built in linen cabinet back in this blog post. Those filler pieces make such a difference and really give it that built in linen cabinet feel!

Linen Closet Update & Tips for Choosing Paint

A good chunk of our time was spent updating the built-in linen closet. Here’s what the end of our hallway and the linen closet looked like when we moved in.

Linen Closet Update & Tips for Choosing Paint
The existing linen closet looked so sad sandwiched between all of the new millwork we had been installing. If you’re wondering about the linen closet door (or lack thereof), the plan isn’t to leave it open. We’re going to install a door over the top portion of the linen closet once the french doors for the hallway arrive.

Our Organized Linen Closet (Finally!)

be sharing our organized linen closet today. The Story Behind Our Organized Linen ClosetI would consider our current linen closet fairly “standard.” It sits in the upstairs hallway between a bedroom and hall bathroom.By all accounts, organizing the linen closet should have been a straightforward and easy project.Lesson 7: Done is Better Than PerfectIn this organized linen closet, I got a hair-brained idea to paper the entire back wall AND shelves with wrapping paper.

Our Organized Linen Closet (Finally!)
have this organized linen closet looking AND functioning great, and I am feeling some renewed motivation to get back to some other areas I’ve been neglecting!

Modern Master Bath Remodel: Part 5: Built-In Linen Closet

Recently, I tackled the linen closet, and I'm in love!I know installing a linen closet where the shower used to be sounds odd, but it works really well. The old linen closet was across the walkway, but was removed when we built the water closet. Before I could start building the linen closet, I first had to tackle a little mistake leftover from the shower installation .

The new linen closet is also quite a bit deeper than the original one.

Linen Closet Reveal

While the entire project isn’t quite done, I couldn’t resist revealing one aspect that is finished: the transformation of our built-in linen closet!Since the room is our guest room, I wanted to make the built-in more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

I also knew I wanted to incorporate black accents into the guest room since I’m using a lot of matte black fixtures in the adjoining bathroom. The closet is stocked with extra pillows, blankets, towels, washcloths, and a variety of toiletry items that our guests may need.

I’m so happy with how this piece turned out – I can hardly believe it is the same TV cabinet from just a couple months ago!

Linen Closet Makeover

Five years ago we moved into our home with a non-functioning linen closet and it’s time to conquer that disorganization!A DIY tutorial to build shelves in a hall linen closet. My favorite aspect of this linen closet makeover is the creation of shelves were there was nothing before. This linen closet makeover was not a hard project but because the space is hidden from sight I was ignoring it for years.

You will feel 1000% better knowing your linen closet is amazing even though the door is usually closed.

Built-In Linen Cabinets Update

A huge thank you to D. Lawless Hardware, for providing the beautiful pulls and handles for today’s home update! My husband and I gave the hallway between the kids’ two rooms a big refresh by painting the built-in linen cabinets!

Built-In Linen Cabinets Update
Every time we walked past the old wood cabinets, as you’ll see below, we got a major itch to paint!

We have hardwood floors, so the wood on wood look just wasn’t doing it for us, especially with the original color of the wood.

This deep blue color with distressed copper pulls was just what this space needed!

Built-in Linen Closet

That space is destined to become a 32″-deep built-in linen closet, so today, I drew up a rough design. The top section has adjustable shelves, with three graduated drawers below and a counter that sticks out about 1-1/2″ between the two sections. The cabinet proper will be 34-1/2″ wide, with a 2″ face frame on either side; the face frame will be scribed to the walls. The face frame, drawer fronts and doors will be yellow pine (reclaimed, if I can find it for a reasonable price), shellacked, toned and varnished to match the rest of the unpainted woodwork in the house. And if I get lucky and can find some affordable Port Orford cedar, I’ll use that for the drawer bottoms.

Removing built in storage in old home?

I recently bought an old cape cod home that was built in 1939.It has a built in storage/linen closet in the hallway, that is the first thing you see when waking in the front door.

Removing built in storage in old home?
it has three very large drawers that are very difficult to open and close and the hallway is already tiny as it is so if I leave a drawer open the entire walk way is blocked.

This built in storage unit extends all the way back to the closet in one of the bedrooms behind it.I’m looking for ideas of how to better utilize this in ways of remodeling it or removing it completely to open up the hallway.
