DIY: A Little More Chalk

I updated my laundry room door with a fresh coat of chalk paint.It is now well on it’s way to being completed, and today I am here to show you my little door ‘brighten-up’ project.But with a metal door, PRIME PRIME PRIME first (just in case… so you don’t end up with an epic fail/catastrophe like I did with my melamine Pantry Doors).

Hallway Makeover - Design Plan

(Design plans I can wrap my head around, but how we’re going to fit a crew of 8 or 9 in that hallway- I have no idea- LOL!)We made a trip up to Southern Accents in Cullman last week to see if they had anything that might work.We looked through door after door after door, and then boom!I love that it’ll help even things out, but I don’t love that it turned the wood red-orange.It’s sort of hard to tell in that photo, but it’s a pale pistachio color, and I’m going to pair it with navy, white, and grass green.

Five Steps to a Super Organized Small Space Mud Room or Entry

Snow makes me thrilled to have a “mud room”, however tiny it is, to deal with all that gear.And, much like a snowball growing as it rolls down a hill, this mud room and laundry room project certainly grew as well.So today I’m here to share my thoughts and ideas with you about how to create a super organized entry or mud room in a small space.As I shared the other day, our laundry room zone {or alcove} got an organizational makeover as well – you can read all those details here.And another quick glimpse at the laundry zone…So this is how that area is looking now…So here are my best tips for how to create a super organized small space mud room or entry in FIVE steps!

Reclaimed Wood Barn Door

Julie of DO or DIY needed a creative solution for her laundry room after installing new appliances that blocked the door from opening all the way.Julie and her husband realized a barn door was the perfect solution and would make quite the statement in their boring hallway.

Instead of dishing out hundreds for a laundry room door, Julie and the hubs decided to build their own barn door using antique wood from an architectural salvage shop and simple materials found at any big box hardware store.

Julie says, “At the end of the day, it ended up being just under $65 and looks identical to many of the other options we found that ranged from $300 all the way up to nearly $1000!”The inspiration came from the Z Combination Barn Door from Rustica Hardware.

laundry room/closet doors

A friend of mine was asking me for advice on what to do with her laundry area doors.Her laundry area is part of her bathroom which is currently being renovated.

Last year, we contemplated moving the whole laundry area to our second floor to a larger unfinished room off of our bedroom/walk-in closet.

So I did a little brainstorming and research for my lucky friend and her laundry area dilemma.

Or you could get black knobs and make the doors really blend in and look very sleek.

House Tour

Off the Kitchen is another hallway leading to the garage on the right.There are 3 doors on the left which lead to a small pantry, the laundry room and a storage closet.

The laundry Room is pretty small so there wasn’t a whole lot I could do in there other than paint and install a couple things to optimize storage.I made out of big, wide strips of MDF that I painted and drilled for the wooden pegs you can buy at any craft store.AfterAlthough, that big pile of clothes in the middle of the floor looks the same in the “After Laundry Room” when it’s laundry day.

New House Tour

It is a small area all together, but it is quite perfect for us!I do LOVE this house, but the finishes just are not my style.

So, the next few pictures that I am sharing with you kind of explain why we truly fell in love with this house.

As you can see, it extends from our living area to the other side of the dining area which is our where our master is located.It sort of feels like a tree house with all of the windows and trees that we see.
