Using her suggestions, I turned our tiny bedroom window into an extra large, super charming, farmhouse-style window that kicks the pants off our previous window trim.I tried with all my might to get the existing window sill out, but it didn’t want to budge.

I measured the distance between the window sill and the top of the window (43″) and cut two 1 x 4 pieces to fit.

I wanted a nice, big ledge at the bottom of the window, but because I couldn’t remove the existing window sill, I had to improvise.

Soooo… what do you guys think of the new window trim??

DIY Farmhouse Window Trim

Our super simple DIY farmhouse window trim completely elevated the look of the entire room.If you’re looking for a simple, affordable way to add some character to your home, this DIY farmhouse window trim project is for you!I couldn’t see myself re-installing orange trim that I didn’t love over our brand new drywall, so our living room sat without any window trim at all for a while.

If you’re just replacing your window trim, you might not have to do this part.Just because the left side of your window trim needs to be cut to 56 3/16” does NOT mean your right side will also.

In the meantime though, let’s take a detour and talk about window trim.Adam and I knew we wanted trim eventually, but figured we would do that later (plus they weren’t going to make the price cheaper by leaving the window trim unfinished, I asked).But when we started the shiplap in the laundry and mudroom it was time to make a decision about trim.

We could either just add trim on top of the existing drywall returns, or rip them out and then add trim.Simple is what I wanted and simple it was…but it was just too simple, and a little flat.

DIY Window Trim

In our last house, I showed how we updated window trim by removing the old trim and adding a simple farmhouse style window trim.Another big difference between our window trim in this tutorial and my previous tutorial on installing window trim is that this time around we totally replaced the window sill with a custom cut window sill.

Remove old window sill and trimSince my original window sill was really short on the edges and not wide enough for side window trim, I had to remove it.

There are so many farmhouse trim choices, so today I’m sharing all the different trim options we chose for our own farmhouse!“Oh, all we have to do is install the trim.”FARMHOUSE TRIM CHOICESAnd then you start the project and you realize that installing trim actually means 142 steps, including but not limited to:Choosing the trim – which means finding the best base trim and the best combo of trim for windows.Install base trim – lots of measuring.In the end, we chose:Trim paint:We chose to use Behr Alkyd Paint in White for all trim, doors and cabinets.Base trim: 5 1/4 inch Colonial base trim (something like this, although we bought it at a local lumberyard)Window trim:A mix of primed MDF boards – they are 1×4 and 1×6 widths and come with a rounded side.

We just got a house with builder grade trims around doors and windows.We plan on getting taller baseboards (thinking about 5 1/4" ones right now).

Since the ceiling is 9ft and the doors are 6ft8 there is quite some space above the 2-panel doors.

I want to fill up some of this space and make the doors look taller with some diy farmhouse style trims like this:And I would also make matching ones for the windows.I know farmhouse is "in" right now, but would these trim be somewhat timeless or look tacky in a few years?

Builder likes the baseboard on the left and in order to accommodate for the baseboard, we would need to use a backband on the sides of the door.The baseboard looks somewhat unique and it protrudes out a bit on top (close image below).

Something as simple as new window trim can make a room just POP.Then you will trim your 1×6 also to the width of your window plus an additional 10in.I loved this trim so much that I decided to also do the DIY farmhouse window trim to my sunroom window.

I used the same exact steps to trim out this window in my sunroom except I added a window ledge.The window ledge is 1×6 cut to the length of my window plus an additional 10in to account for the overhang.

Farmhouse Style Window Trim from Pine Boards

Today, I'm going to share with you how we built the window trim for our cabin.I wanted farmhouse style window trim, but since we were remote, I couldn't just run to the store and buy special mouldings.

So I had to get creative and design window trim from scrap 1x boards.

The top is cut to the opening width, and the sides are cut to the opening width minu 1-1/2".We painted the entire window trim on the ground, and then put it inside the window opening.

In my mind, it’s all or nothin’ when it comes to trim and moulding.I would love to replace the original trim and moulding, but that is an expensive pocess which we are not yet ready to undertake.😀Then I taped off the windows using blue painter’s tape, since I was planning on painting the actual windows a dark gray.

Masculine Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Design Concept & Progress

My masculine modern farmhouse bathroom remodel is inching closer to the finish line, so I thought this would be a good time to share the design concept and some progress photos.When I introduced the project, I mentioned how my clients didn’t want white trim or finishes in the bathroom.

Design ConceptMy overall design concept was to create a warm masculine space that referenced farmhouse style but in a more modern way.

For the floor tile, I specified a porcelain tile in shades of gray, taupe and cream that resembles concrete.

I decided to use pendant lights on the longer side and a more traditional vanity fixture on the shorter side where the wall space was too tight for another option.

(which of course meant that we had to finish painting the wall up to the ceiling, ugh)Our Farmhouse (craftsman style) Trim was fairly simple to do.We even contemplated staining the trim instead of painting it white.

We ended up sticking with our original plan to paint the trim white.

For the kitchen, we used 1x3s because of the tile backsplash…*swoon*I wish my kitchen was *THIS* tidy every day.

The trim work is finally done!
