Laundry Room Shiplap and DIY Wood Shelves

Our favorite part of the new laundry room is definitely the laundry room shiplap and shelving.First thing we did was measure the back wall of our laundry room above the washer and dryer.

We cut 1×6 boards to fit that width perfectly for the Laundry Room Shiplap, then we tacked them up to the wall with our nail gun, just barely leaving a space between each board.Once all of the Laundry Room shiplap boards were up we painted them with two coats of white paint.

We used 1×6 boards again for the shelves and cut them the exact same length as the shiplap (67 inches).

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Laundry Room Shelves

When we first moved in to our new fixer upper the laundry area that sits next to our powder room just had a basic wire shelf.When I installed the shiplap in this space I ripped it out since I knew that I eventually wanted some chunky floating shelves there instead.

It should be around 9.75″ but since each piece of wood can vary slightly I recommend doing it this way.The cage ceiling light that we installed here blends with the rustic farmhouse vibe perfectly.Actually I had already installed it in these two corners but we had to rip it off to install the shelves properly.

Before we went to Home Depot I had done a rough sketch of how I wanted the shelves in the room, aka.I went over the bracket with 2 coats of Kilz primer followed by the wall paint color and like magic everything was well again!

The thing is, this wall above the washer and dryer in the laundry room has been begging for shelving for a long time…Look at this.I don’t love a lot of shelving brackets that are available these days, so I figured the laundry room was either going to need to be floating shelves (like these awesome ones that Sarah built in her laundry room, I’m jealous.)(Which actually required me to re-paint the laundry room for the second time that day.Here are a few weird things about my life/laundry situation: First, I keep all my clean socks and workout clothes in the laundry room.

Luckily the laundry room is right next to the mudroom, so this works well for me.
