I'm being very brave here today, and I am sharing photos of my cottage in it's current "Before" state.My own personal style is cottage with a side of farm house.Both time and money are challenges for me in regards to breathing new life and lots of love into my little cottage.Do I go with a grey house, white trim, dark grey shutters,,,and a fabulous green door?

After holding many paint chips up to the pinkish-beige siding, I settled on Card Room Green by Farrow & Ball……and I had it mixed by Benjamin Moore in Rust Scat Semi-gloss Enamel.My dad and I took the door off the hinges and set it onto saw horses.

It’s best to paint a door when it’s laying flat, if possible, to prevent dripping.

Once dry, I helped him reinstall the door on the hinges and he put the hardware back in place.

So far, we’ve changed very little about our house in the seven years we’ve owned it.But the first thing I did was paint the brown front door.After the epoxy was thoroughly cured, there was more sanding, priming and two coats of the blue paint.Not only does it add some much needed color to our very plain white house, it’s sort of become our signature “thing.” Now I tell people to come to the “white house with the blue door.”I’m not a big fan of winter and lots of snow in February, but I do like a nice Christmas snowfall.Last year we had a big snowstorm a week before Christmas and I snapped this picture because I thought it was so charming.
