A list of decorating solutions to hide and blend your television to make it work beautifully in any room. That’s the mantra we’ve had going in the living room lately, particularly involving the TV decor situation. Ever since Robert and I hauled in the new sofa, updated the gallery wall with a minimalist look, and repurposed our DIY ottoman to become our “new” back door entryway bench, our mantel and TV were quietly screaming for a little attention of their own.
I gotta say, it’s nice not having so much “stuff” around it so that the living room can breathe.
It was really all thanks to Regan almost becoming a baby pancake with that old fireplace screen that kept falling over. And for a more traditional lighting refresh, we traded the old industrial farmhouse style sconces for these sconces that I ended up spray painting aged brass to match our breakfast nook chandy.
If you’ve ever been stumped about how to jazz up your TV to incorporate as part of your decor, I hope these tips help: Keep the decor simple and focus only adding accents on either side of the TV with just a pair of sconces to add more light to the room when the television is off.
Dark paint around a TV helps disguise it against a wall. Run a curtain rod along the length of a wall and cover up your TV with some inexpensive IKEA panels or bleached drop cloths for an even cheaper option.
Attach vertical mirrors to each other accordion style with hinges to keep the TV easily accessible but out of plain view when not in use. To add to the function, keep any electronic components stored in the cabinets too.
Build a TV cover by printing your favorite art on a poster size, glur your art to plywood, cut into 4 sections, add accordion-style hinges, and hang it up to conceal. Pack your living room full of storage and even build your own with this DIY solution.
Add a floor lamp or a tall plant and suddenly that TV doesn’t stick out quite so much.
A little pattern can go a long way and make your TV look cute in the process. I would LOVE to build some sort of TV cover-up one of these days to ours. You can check out more living room decorating ideas here.
