The Fenmores run Front Porch Creations, a popular landscape design and construction company in town. They have been designing outdoor living spaces in Southern California since 1995 and have been maintaining the landscapes they install through their other venture, Nurture.
The interiors were done by Chris, who has a flair for making contemporary work with chunky country and traditional succeed with cool tchotchkes, a talent that is impossible to offer at retail. Given these inspirations, it still took her seven years of thoughtful tinkering to pull off her personal style in a 2,000-square-foot cottage with a busy family of three boys. Her décor starts with a neutral background – walnut floors and soft paint colors from the Martha Stewart collection. Chris then piles on the personality – Wearstler’s Imperial Trellis fabric for window coverings, and a black and white David Hicks geometric cotton on two bergere chairs.
Pairing charcoal drawings with ’60s pop art and plein air requires a superb eye for assembling unlike objects into a collage that makes sense.
